DPIC-potluck-lunch-for-heritage-month_blog_staff-management-SMXThe Staff Management | SMX Diversity Program Inclusion Council (DPIC) was proud to lead our corporate office in a celebration honoring the Hispanic and Jewish Heritage. On Friday, September 14, we recognized National Heritage Month with a potluck lunch, full of Jewish and Hispanic inspired dishes brought to us by Staff Management | SMX employees. This was a very tasteful way to come together as a team and acknowledge both nationally recognized cultures.

We were very pleased with the level of support we had for this event. The pot luck couldn’t have been done without the help of our host Joan Davison, President and COO and Kathy Donath, Sales Support Administrator. Several employees brought delicious dishes for everybody to enjoy. Janice Weiner, Global VP, MSP Division, brought her mother’s famous Kougle recipe, Monica Flores, Finance Manger, brought Mexican rice and Carla Peszynski, Accounts Payable Coordinator, brought her coveted lemon squares. Employee contributions also went towards a delicious taco platter from Los Comales. The platter consisted of catered corn and roast beef sandwiches.

In addition to the monthly diversity newsletter that we send out, Staff Management | SMX encourages employees to partake in activities that are aligned with DPIC initiatives. In interest of Jewish Heritage month, I spoke with some of the program directors at the Illinois Holocaust Museum located in Skokie, IL, 10 minutes northwest of Chicago, and agreed upon a discounted admission price of eight dollars for all Staff Management | SMX employees. Our employees were able to utilize the discount throughout September.

September also marked the opening of the National Museum of Mexican Art’s annual Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) exhibit. The National Museum of Mexican Art is located in Chicago’s Pilsen neighborhood. The largest Day of the Dead exhibition in the United States honors one of Mexico’s most important celebrations and showcases a variety of Ofrendas for public viewing. Ofrendas refer to the works of art created by Mexican artists from both sides of the border. Check out this free exhibit any time from now until December 16.

Staff Management | SMX is a company that appreciates and values the diversity of our employees. Our pot luck lunch during Heritage Month was an incredible social experience and I’m confident in saying that we all took something away from this gathering.
